Excerpt: A New World Order

Outside the conference building, the man led Lucas to a large black limousine and gestured for him to get in.

Inside were three men - an oriental, an Indian and a black man, probably African. They all bore badges from the official conference. Lucas had a feeling he had seen their faces before. Suddenly he realized that he was sitting in front of the President of South Africa.

'Hello, my friend, said the black man. 'I am Mbeke Nagoto, President of the Republic of South Africa. These are my friends Chin Lai, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Manuel Ortiz, President of Venezuela. We are part of the reason why the climate negotiations collapsed. We would not sign on to something that we knew for sure would never work.'

Lucas recognized their faces from news clippings he had seen. It was them all right.

'What can I do for you?' replied Lucas, uncertainly.

The South African president answered. 'We have read your proposal to create a Gaian League to replace the UN and the WTO. In essence we would like to make your proposal a reality and would like you to work with us on implementing it. It seems to us that you have the gift of uniting pragmatism, realism and vision in a way that can ignite people's hearts and fill their bellies at the same time. This is what we need.'

'You are taking on powerful forces, if you are going to do this,' Lucas answered with a pensive air.

'We know,' answered Ortiz. 'Personally I am not afraid. The Americans have tried to kill me three times already. One cannot be in this game if one is afraid of death. You said it yourself in your book: Death is an illusion.'

Lucas grinned, 'Ah, you got that part right.'

Lucas extended his heart towards them and felt their presence. They had the feel of true disciples. This was the Will of God in operation.

'I am at your service,' said Lucas finally.

The three men all smiled.
